Forest Fact Fridays: This social media series is the start of a chain of forest facts to educate people on the Maine woods and make the MTF Instagram more engaging.

EX: Maine’s forests cover approximately 90% of the state. Of that forested land, Balsam fir is the most abundant tree species, making up about 36%. The species thrives in the cool Northeast climate.

Tree ID cards: This is the first draft of a series of 13 informational cards that provide descriptions of various tree species in the Maine forest and brief fun facts. This will ideally be printed and clipped onto a ring for students, educators, and others to have with them when they are in the forest.

Tree Trading Cards: This is the first draft of a series of 13 trading-like cards, similar to the previous, that provide more detailed descriptions of various tree species in the Maine forest. The cards will be front and back and use the leaf of the tree to help identify the species, along with other specific details, its growth range, location, habitat, and what the species is used for.

This document is an early outline of ideas and details of what videos for FERN and the toolkits may look like. There are two ideas: a shorter video series for the general audience and a longer video series that goes further in depth about the tools used to set up a forest FERN plot.
